Jane Matheson

Jane first started dancing at Dance UK when she was just two years old where she was first taught by Miss Brady. Jane then went on to take part in her first show in 1998 which helped her grow in confidence and gave her a love for performing on stage. She then went on to participate in every Dance UK show until she graduated in 2013.

Throughout her time at Dance UK Jane sat many exams in Ballet, Tap, Disco, Jazz and Modern. In 2010 Jane gained a place in the Pro Dance course at Dance UK where she trained in ISTD Ballet, Tap and Modern. She also got the opportunity to perform at many events during this time including the Glagow Evening Times award ceremony. This course gave Jane a taste of the life of a dancer which she has enjoyed immensely.   Jane is now studying a Social Science degree at Caledonian university.

In 2011, while a Pro Dance Student,  Jane was given the opportunity to help with younger classes alongside Miss Haldane and Miss Watson. It was then that she discovered her love for teaching and working with children. When Jane finally decided to stop dancing before starting uni she was offered a part time position assisting in classes throughout Dance UK. Jane loves being a part of the Dance UK team. Jane says, ‘Working at Dance UK while at university is such a great job to have. I am lucky enough to still be able to do something I love while studying. The best part about working with kids is feeling like you have helped them to achieve something. It is such a rewarding job.’

Dance UK’s 2014 show was the first show Jane spent working backstage rather than as a performer. This was something different for Jane, but she loved the buzz of it all and being part of the production team. She was also given the opportunity to choreograph for the first time and really enjoyed seeing them being performed on stage

Katheryne Walker

Katheryn began her journey at Dance UK at the age of 2 1/2 . After many enjoyable years learning different styles of dance she successfully auditioned for the pre professional students. This challenged and improved her technical ability leading to her gaining qualifications from the ISTD. One of Katheryns main highlights of students has been performing in the annual Dance UK showcases. She was then given the opportunity to be an assistant, a role she is passionate about and committed to. Katheryn has now progressed in her teaching role and has been given more responsibilities.

Katheryn combines her commitments to Dance UK in conjunction with her university studies. She is currently studying a BEd in Physical Education at the University of Edinburgh. In addition to this she coaches and leads various sport camps and kids clubs.

Working at Dance UK has given Katheryn the opportunity to teach on a weekly basis, an experience she thoroughly enjoys. Dance UK has played a major part in Katheryns life and she hopes it will continue to do so.
